About
A sweetened canned energy drink, likely around a standard 12 fl oz serving, with most calories coming from added sugar and essentially no protein, fat, or fiber.
Sparkling Energy Tonic
Headnote
This is a precise, chilled energy drink built on brightness, lift, and clean sweetness. The balance lies in the sharp edge of citric acid, the rounded salt of sodium citrate, and the disciplined bitterness of caffeine carried by carbonated water. Served properly cold, it should read as brisk, vivid, and exact.

Course type: Drink
Yield: 1 can
Serving size: 355 g

Cook time: 0 minutes
Total time: 5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Equipment
1 digital scale
1 mixing vessel
1 fine whisk
1 355 g can or sealed bottle
1 funnel, if needed
Ingredients
Carbonated water 300 g
Sugar 39 g
Citric acid 1.8 g
Natural flavor 2.0 g
Taurine 1.0 g
Caffeine 0.3 g
Sodium citrate 0.7 g
Preservative 0.5 g
Color additive 0.2 g
B vitamin blend 0.5 g
Method
1. Chill the carbonated water until very cold, ideally 2 to 4 °C. Cold liquid retains gas more effectively and gives the finished drink a firmer, cleaner mousse.
2. In a mixing vessel, combine the sugar, citric acid, sodium citrate, taurine, caffeine, preservative, color additive, and B vitamin blend. Whisk briefly to disperse the powders evenly.
3. Add a small portion of the carbonated water and stir just until the dry ingredients are dissolved and the liquid is smooth. Keep the motion controlled to avoid excessive foam.
4. Add the remaining carbonated water in a steady stream, then fold in the natural flavor with minimal agitation. The drink should remain sharply effervescent, evenly colored, and free of visible sediment.
5. Transfer immediately to the can or bottle and seal. The finished beverage should weigh 355 g in total and taste bright, sweet, and brisk, with a clean acidic finish.
Plating and serving
Serve well chilled in a slender glass or directly from the can. The drink should pour with a fine, persistent bead of carbonation and present a clear, luminous color with no haze.
Professional notes
Use the coldest possible water to preserve carbonation and sharpen the palate impression. Dissolve the dry ingredients completely before the final addition of gas; any residue will dull the finish and disturb the balance. The drink must feel energetic, not heavy: sweet at the center, acid on the edges, and clean through the finish.
