Cheese Bread with Coffee

Headnote

This is a study in contrast: warm, savory bread and molten cheese set against the dark clarity of coffee. The dish is modest in ingredients but exacting in balance, with each element kept distinct so the plate reads as intentional rather than improvised. Served together, it becomes a simple breakfast or light snack with real composure.

Recipe essentials

Dish category: Savory bread with beverage
Cuisine or origin: Contemporary
Course type: Breakfast or light snack
Yield: 1 serving
Serving size: 220 g
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 8 minutes
Total time: 13 minutes
Difficulty: Easy

Equipment

Small ovenproof tray
Oven or grill
Small saucepan or coffee brewer
Serving plate and cup

Ingredients

Bread, 100 g
Cheese, 40 g
Coffee, 80 g

Method

  • 1. Preheat the oven or grill to 220°C. Place the bread on the ovenproof tray in a single layer.

  • 2. Distribute the cheese evenly over the bread, covering the surface without allowing it to spill far beyond the edges.

  • 3. Bake or grill for 6 to 8 minutes, until the bread is hot and the cheese is fully melted, bubbling lightly, and beginning to take on pale golden color at the edges. The bread should remain crisp at the base and tender beneath the cheese.

  • 4. Prepare the coffee so it is hot and aromatic, then pour exactly 80 g into a cup.

  • 5. Transfer the cheese bread to a serving plate and serve immediately with the coffee alongside.

  • Plating and serving

Place the cheese bread centered on a warm plate and set the coffee beside it in a separate cup. The bread should present as crisp, molten, and contained; the coffee should remain clear and unfussy, providing contrast rather than competing for attention.

    Professional notes

Use heat decisively: the bread must be warmed through before the cheese is fully colored. Serve at once, while the cheese remains supple and the coffee is still vivid.
